larry,

two things...

1. if that is just a box, i'd hate to see what u call furniture.

2. if that is what "blotchy" looks like i'd love to have some blotchy in some of my projects

great work, love the details, dovetails look great (hand cut or machine)
finish looks wonderful, what is it?

thanks for sharing
chris

Larry, that is some very nice work, from the pictures, it does not look "Blotchy" at all, but if you say it is, I'll take your word for it :D

Looks fantastic from where I'm setting :thumb:

I’d have a really hard time parting with that one Larry. I haven’t seen a box that nice in a long time. Great attention to detail.

If only it weren’t so darn blotchy!

I looked at your additional pics, and all I can say is I sure don't see any noticeable blotchiness. I'd think any unevenness in the color is going to go away pretty quickly with exposure to UV. I think your "box" looks awesome.

In a way, you remind me of my Grandma. She'd bake the best pie in the world, then sit there while you're eating it and tell you all the things she thought was wrong with it...too sweet, not flaky enough, not sweet enough, too thick, too thin, etc. And it was still the best pie you'd ever eaten. You remind me of that. (And that's a compliment, BTW.) :D

first of all this box is a good example of what a forum like this can do for someone,, see this is a cumalitive effort.. the original desire for curly cherry came from the one and only Jason Tunistra and his desire for shaker inspired furniture, i saw some of his first offerings on smc and then a few over here but have always wanted to try my hand at it.. the deisgning of it was inspired or better to say he supported me in my ideas and voiced his opinions on what i had in mind, and that is Shaz, then came Tod into the works he was in on most of it in one part or another but he was the one that showed me how to do the beading and again gave me the support that i could do it,, and yes i heard the famous phraze its just wood if it doesnt work do it again..along with a very needed "get off my butte and fix it on the night i called him about the lost door and Steve clardy was very instrumental in his support as well we have had many conversations some very late at night figuring out things and how to do it or get around an obsticle.. and Charlie Plesaums was another that led me to a some finishing tips.. but all in all it was the family that built this i was just the tool and the family was the expiernce behind it.. without that it wouldnt have happened..tools dont make the project, the folks using them do.. so a big thanks to the forum and all of you who was a part in this..some i may not have mentioned but i still thank you as well:thumb:
p.s: order extra glass it does break, twice.

So if I got this right you Larry went to Jasons and stole his curly cherry. Took it to Shaz who made the box. Then took it to Tod who put the beading on.Ran it down to Steve to get the doors made. Then ran it over to Charlie to get it finished. Brought it home and broke a door and three pieces of glass trying to fix it.:rofl::rofl:
You know I'm just fun'n ya and that was what the whole wheres Larry thread was really about:thumb:

well yur almost right i resawed the curly cherry at steves place, did learn how to do beading at tods, did inhaul while i was there. he has some good smellun tobacco and comin from that captains pipe was wonderful..the curly wasnt stole from jason though he is apreacher, i dont pilfer from those folk. they got freinds in high places and i dont. shaz told what to do with it ,he didnt really make the box. he does those great big entertainment centers. i made the doors thats probally why one broke i used twice as much glue on the next one. and the glass was recycled glass it came from the beer cooler that quit.cuttin it with a hammer and chisel doesnt work well,, finally just asked the wife to use her 9inch nails:rofl:

Hi Larry ,
I have just read through this very entertaining thread you have created and must agree with the folks in their assessment of your creativity, quality of craftsmanship and kindness to share the joy of your creation. We all get help, some times we give others credit whether they deseve it or not:o.
The blotchy I did not see, can't make it out in the one picture you first posted and can't pull up the Kodak link.:dunno: The wood you picture looks like "fiddle back" maple with a cherry colored tone to it. Are you sure you are not trying to take the "Fiddle out of the Back"? I don't think it comes out.:dunno: That would be "fiddleless back" maple or in this case "fiddleless back" cherry!:rofl::rofl: Hope to see more photos of the Box, what box? The cabinet? The one with two doors? Is that the box? What box? I never made no box. :D It wasn't ME! I swear!
#1 Change anti freeze and #2 try old milwaukee.:rofl:
Have a great day Larry and thanks,
Shaz :)
P.S. Beautiful wood choice fiddle or fiddleless Mr. Crotchity!:D

What a great thread!!! I'm sitting here in an open air cafe in Santa Cruz and people must think I'm a dork as I'm laughing so loud. You guys are totally hilarious.

Seriously, that is one of the best looking cabinets I've seen in a long, long time. Just stunning all the way around. Everything is just right. But the wood? Some might think that our craft is responsible for the death of trees. Ah, I think they should look at these pics. You made that cherry come alive! Not only did it come alive, it sings! This piece, like a fine wine, will last a long, long time. I'm sure it will be cherished for decades to come. Great job.

Mr. Tuinstra, really nice website. I like the picture sequence of the construction.
Ok, back to regular programming.
