Hi,

I have been looking around for a set. The Woodpeckers have been retired.
I have a CNC mill and decided that I am going to make mine. If there is some interest, I would be willing to make a few sets at cost for members here.
I have to measure my machine I think the X travel is 46 inches, so that would be a limitation, not a biggie but a need to know for you.
I was thinking aluminum, but will take suggestions on alternate materials. I will base the cost on getting it from McMaster Carr so all can see what the price should be. If there is enough interest I would try to get stock from somewhere cheaper. I am in Cleveland, Ohio and there are lots of suppliers for such material. You would have to pay your own shipping of course. And we could all settle on the correct final dimensions for the cauls. Probably a can of worms, but who knows, it might be a good thing too.

Let me know.

Hello All,

Ok, I unpacked my new saw today to get it ready to assemble tomorrow.
I waxed every powder coated part inside and out of the saw with the best automotive wax I could get a hold of.
(Thinking that sawdust will be cleared from the surface easily, at least for awhile.)
Now my question is what am I do put on this beautiful cast iron table to preserve it's current state?
Is there something you all use, PAM?, a mineral oil?, wax? Maybe a coat of clear something? Laquer?
Or nothing at all, I just want to do it right and not have a rusty stained mess in 6 months. I live in the Northeast and it gets quite humid here sometimes.
I know it can't be WD-40 as that is silicone based and could cause problems with wood finishing.

Thank you for any help, advice, or criticism you may offer!

Ron

I received some strange emails from Human Resources while on vacation. Seems they were after me to attend some get together at the Chancellor's Residence. I told them thanks just the same but, I thought I'd pass. This did not go over well :). Turns out that I was being recognized for just doing my job and they wanted me there for all the broo-ha-ha. Took LOML and had a good time as far as those cocktail-party sorts of affairs go; not really my style.

At any rate there was a financial award of some sort and my birthday is coming up so . . . . this showed up today.
It was very well packed and went together quite easily.
I had been bird-dogging this model for about a year and a half. Reports kept coming in with high ratings and long term satisfaction. The story of the company is pretty cool and it is nice to shove my money at an American company.

I made and swapped in a finer grit paper (it comes with 80grit) and that task was stupid-easy. From my research, this model deals with a few of the evils that tarnish other formats. I have nothing to compare it to but, can say that paper changes, belt alignment and head alignment are a breeze. It is super quiet and dust collection is very good.

The frame, carriage and chassis are massive cast iron. Good look and feel. Clean fit and finish. I will build a drawered mobile base for it. Something with this footprint can not simply take up space, it has to earn its keep :D. I'll report back after a few months of use and see where we are.

Ran across this same identical Bosch table...

Ran across this same identical Bosch table http://www.lowes.com/pd_131779-353-R...1132353&rpp=24 on CL (CL Listing deleted, so can't show the actual listing). The CL listing was for $120, but the seller accepted a counter-offer of $100. Looks totally like new & includes all the accessories as noted in the L's description.

Had fully intended to build my own router table, but when I ran across this, I realized it would do everything I want to do, plus it would cost less that the materials & time I would have to expend if I did it myself. Probably built better than I could do.

Tomorrow, I plan on installing Glen Bradley's old Craftsman router on this table. He graciously gave me his old router for just the price of shipping. This should be a good combo. Thanks again Glen!

Removed comment about insert levelling screws. They were already there & I hadn't noticed them.

Just got home a bit ago from retrieving my newest tool. I got a deal on a JDS Multi-Router. Guy that had it got it from his father-in-law, who used it maybe twice, and then kept it on display in his family room for a couple years. When he went 'to the home,' Bob got it, and stored it in his garage for another couple years before dusting it off and selling it to me.

The machine is like new, and comes to me with nearly $800 worth of extras. I got the whole thing for well less than half price, so I'm pretty stoked.

I just wanted to take a minute to relate a good experience with Jet customer support. I am sure that if it had been a bad experience (which seems to be the norm with many companies), I would have been on here complaining so I should talk about the good ones too. I recently bought a new Jet 1642 lathe. I found that the headstock and tailstock centers is not match exactly, missed by about 1/32". I sent an email explaining the problem and they quickly responded and asked me to call the support line. It took a while to have an opportunity to call. We were in the process of buying a house and moving. I finally called last week and explained the problem. The rep asked a couple of questions about how the alignment was off. He told me to extend the adjustable foot on the right front a little bit. I did so and the alignment was perfect. Simple solution to what I thought was going to be a big issue.

Anyway, kudos to Jet customer support.
