On a side note, we had to have our chocolate lab put down this morning as well. He had a large cancer mass in his belly area.
Bitter sweet day for sure.

The Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River collapsed due to being hit by an oversized load this evening. They pulled 3 people from the water and there does not appear to be any others missing (so far). Good thing there, but this will be a major mess. You can not believe the amount of traffic, both cars and commercial trucks that run down the I-5 corridor from Canada to Seattle. This bridge is about 30 miles south of Bellingham. My wife travels over this bridge about once a week to see her mom in Everett (just north of Seattle).

Just google I-5 Bridge Collapse and you can get the latest news.

Got to sit in with my buddies tonight playing happy hour at a local bar and grill. I played all three sets with them, only sitting out on three or four songs. I've only actually rehearsed about six or seven songs with them, but was able to fake and follow on the rest. This is my second time of playing full sets with them...I got to do the same thing last Sunday at a graduation party for a friend's daughter. And it looks like I get to do it again next Sunday at another restaurant/bar nearby. The more I get to play with them, the more I start to resemble a real guitar player. :D

I'm working on summer vacation plans and it looks like I'm going to have about 2 days to spend around Los Angeles, CA. We don't expect to do much except drive up and down the coast a few hours and visit a couple/few beaches. We fly back home out of LAX on a Saturday morning. I need to find a decent affordable hotel for the two nights we are there. I think I want to stay pretty close to the airport to avoid any morning traffic the morning we fly out. For anyone who has stayed at hotels near LAX....do you have any recommendations. I'm getting dizzy trying to read all the different reviews online....besides...I trust you all.

Thanks,

One week. That's how long it's been since I've had a cigarette. After smoking between one and two packs a day for the past 40 years, this is the second longest I've ever gone without one. (I didn't have a smoke for two weeks when I was in the hospital with a broken back.) I haven't quit cold turkey, though. I switched to an e-cig, so I'm still getting my dose of nicotine, just without the tar and carbon monoxide and other bad stuff in smoke. Now it's just water vapor and nicotine, with a bit of flavoring. They taste better than cigarettes (peach, vanilla, and raspberry are my favorite flavors so far), and still satiate the jonesing for nicotine. Much less expensive, too. Also doesn't upset my stomach like the nicotine gum does. Still probably not 100% healthy, but I'm not coughing up gunk in the morning anymore, and my car no longer smells like an ashtray. :thumb:

Last night after the new Star Track movie I decided to move the surprise up a day.
Jake was staying with my son Jarrod and they were at the Cafe'e for drinks with friends who have not seen Jake since Christmas. So I told the wife I wanted to get a burger at the Cafe'e. Well it was great. The bar dived the dining room and the wife doesn't drink so no problem their. I walked in gave my son a hug and said bring our Ice Tea to us. As usual she is on her Ipad and Jake put the tea in from of her and when she looked up the expression was 1st WHAT.... Then total surprise. All she could say was. You Got Me ! You got me !
I had to hold back a tear for joy of seeing him hug his mom it was great.
One of those priceless moments.

I was reading rogers truck thread, and it brought back memories of the deals I made on a few used cars Ive purchased, so whats the best deal you ever got on a used or new car?

I had 2 great purchases in my life.

When I moved back from florida, approx. 1973, I didn't have a car.

My wifes father(then my girlfriend) said since he was in the auto parts business, would ask around and find me a decent used car for a decent price.

Turned out, my wifes cousin, owned a lee myles transmission shop(the lee myles franchise was owned by another one of my wifes cousins), and he recently had a nyc marshall take over a 1965 mustang that the owner couldn't pay for the transmission job.
After the marshall turned the paperwork over to the cousin, he called us and said if I pay him for the transmission job, the car is mine.
300 ir 350 dollars, cant remember now,, but I had to put new tires on the car before I drove it home, we pushed it down the street to a tire place.

By far, the fasted auto Ive ever owned, as the previous owner was a car fanatic, souped up this mustang, dual carbs, all the trimmings, used it to race, kept it in pretty good shape, but drove it into a ravine, and after paying to restore it, he ran out of money, and he abandoned it at the lee myles shop.

I didn't take care of the car too well, started having some trouble, and I didn't want to put any money into it.(yes, I was an idiot)

I was sitting with my wife, again, before we were married, and a neighbor of hers, was telling my fil the story of how his daughter ran away, dropped out of college, with a man he did not approve of.
He had just purchased her a new chevy vega in 1975, the year before, and didn't want her to take the car, as he was paying off the loan under his name.
He told my fatherinlaw, find someone to pay off the bank the balance, and they could have it.
So I jumped in and said Id meet him at the bank on Monday, pay off the balance, and he could sign it over to me right then at the bank, and that's what we did.
I sold the mustang, and took an aluminum engine car everyone told me not to buy.
The car was a top of the line vega, had the European trim , leather seats, very luxurious and sporty for a crappy car, but I took it on many trips, used it, it never gave me an ounce of trouble.
Traded it in 4 years later for a 1980 ford Fairmont. Got most of what I paid for it on the tradein.
