Woodworking with children

Tool Trays are always a hit!

May I suggest the 8 piece old fashioned tool trays. 2 sides, 2 ends, bottom, 2 handle supports, one dowel for the handle. You can make these any size, out of pine, poplar, or even scraps and plywood. They can be as fancy (screws, miters), or as simple as you like (nails, butt joints).

For band saw practice and art combined try having them paint a picture on a piece of 1/4" hardboard or plywood. Cut 2 pieces the same size. When done with the picture, have him cut the unpainted piece into puzzle like pieces just to help him understand the limitations of the bandsaw, then let him cut up his painted picture and gently sand the edges. Results are a more educated child and a puzzle for longterm use.
Shaz :)
