At least I got something from the show - gloat

There was a lady at the show who asked me how I got my wood, and I explained my collecting methods. She explained she had an ash limb down in her yard, and she took my card. Well, last night she called. So this morning I went and grabbed what I could. To my joy it was a large limb, and the tree itself was 3 feet in diameter up to the main crotch!! It's got beautiful coloring, with a dark center surrounded by a rosy area. The largest pieces are 13" in diameter.

Question: Does ash make good NE forms?

Hutch, I don't know about the answer to your question, but I think you have enough there to find out. Take a look at Bruce Forrest's gallery at AAW. He works with ash quite a bit.

I guess you did score big time at the show...maybe no sales, but a huge load of free wood. Congrats.

I don't know the answer, either but I would sure have fun finding out with that haul. Ya done good.

Yeah, I definitely have to try an NE bowl. Also, I can't wait to dig into it and see what that coloration looks like!

Ash does indeed make for nice NE bowls. It usually keeps its bark pretty well in my limited experience. It is certainly worth a try anyway. Have fun !
