Ike's Eye

Here's a storm map of Hurricane Ike in the Houston area. While only a few people are posting to it, you will get an idea of the damage they're experiencing. Hold your cursor over the red balloons to read the location status.

I suspect Shaz and other friends we've not heard from may be in the "no power" areas. Shaz lives 90 miles NNW of Galveston.

Hope we hear from everyone soon,

Just an addition: check out the notes at the bottom of the page, below the map with the red balloons. Some sad messages.

I emailed him and called yesterday...no reply. Just called again and still just get his voice mail....

Hope he and the others that went through Ike are OK. Probably power is out and they can check-in yet. I hope that's all it is.

Does anyone now what section of town Shaz lives in, or major street intersections?

After a brief search, if he's lives in the area of 290/1960 with a zip of 77065, power was restored about 6:30PM. He may have left town though and on the road. Getting gas is a wait at most stations going into town.

The ship that was supposed to take us on a cruise is now in the port of Galveston and is being used for housing for people of the area. Very decent gesture on the part of a big company.

When Katrina and/or Rita came through they did the same thing, but some people complained because they couldn't get off the ship, and some ships sat empty because no one would get aboard...

I wonder how many will get on board now?

Interesting, being given shelter and food then decline.

Could be because there was no entertainment and no liquor.
Of course what the complaining politicians don't realize is the cruise lines make a fortune on liquor sales, which is not part of the cruise fee. The "singles" cruises are the real money makers for the cruise lines.
