I am considering making a wine rack for my parents for Christmas this year. My mom had mentioned that it was something they could use.

I've never done a wine rack before, so I'm looking for some design ideas.
Requirements:
it will need to hold between 12 and 20 or so bottles of wine.
It will also need to be a piece that sits on the floor.

aside from those things, I am totally open to any design ideas.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

wood dowels, clean, modern, and I saw a picture in a magazine just recently of a unit built like this that was used as a wall, wine bottles

large dowels attached like kids blocks with smaller dowels. Guess any species would do, finish as liked.

Heres the roughest sketch ever to come on this website, just to get the idea.(one unit)

build as many units and attach in any shape, pyramid, square, rectangle, can build in a cabinet, without one, well, thats the idea.

Sean,
Just to be a bit different, how about a minimalist approach? None of these are mine, just examples of a different slant on the idea. Do a Google image search and see what you come up with.

FWIW,
Wes

Hi Sean ,
Since you are open to any ideas:rolleyes:, and since a little wine can at times add color to the moment I thought these pictures might offer some creative juice for the mix.
This is a piece made years ago and now rests on a shelf in the garage.:dunno:

As can be seen it has a flavor of it's own.

Okay :thumb:, but how do we get it up off the floor?
We dont want it to just sit it on the floor! It would just get dust in the holes.

Solutions come in creative ways.

This is the stand sitting on another shelf in the garage. It has some old cafe doors on top of it now, with some painted corbels also on the shelf between the legs.

A view from the side shows my inability to make a straight cut. :rofl:

Ideas are just that.
Shaz:)
