Thought I'd come back with a few pictures for y'all. A couple of bowls I finished recently.

Hey Joe...nice to see ya.

Nice bowls, especially the winged one. It looks like the bowl grew through the board.

Joe, I can't say that I like the mulberry, although I respect the skill that it takes to turn something like that. But that maple bowl is very very nice. I like the rim treatment you put on it.

Thanks! Anything in particular you don't like about it, or just the style? I'm always curious to hear opinions, good and bad.

And thanks to everyone else who commented, too.

It's the style, Joe. Although I can appreciate the skill that goes into these fancy winged bowls, and hollow forms on pedestals, I guess I'm practical enough (or old-fashioned enough) that my taste runs toward objects that are usable, rather than just to sit on the shelf for show (although my own collections do just that!!!!). I'd rather have a bowl that can possibly be used for popcorn or candy than a hollow form on a pedestal that I have to hide from my cats!!!

It's just me and my pedestrian tastes!!! I'm not a big fan of natural-edge turnings either. Don't know why. :dunno: You can chalk it up to the fact that I am a person of the female persuasion and one of those who says "I know what I like when I see it." (Sort of like trying to put a quantification on porn.)

I can dig that, Nancy. In general I'm a utilitarian bowl kinda guy too, although I do have a soft spot for natural edges.

Probably my favorite piece ever is this big, simple cherry bowl. I love the way it feels in my hands.

As far as it goes, I really like the winged bowl. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used at a gathering for some sort of utilitarian reason. Maybe Chips? Maybe Nuts? Who knows, but I'm sure the non-woodworking folks would have their socks knocked off by it.

I also really like utilitarian bowls too. Just hoping I can get to the point someday where I can do either one :D

Seriously, very nice job on all the bowls you've shared here....

I certainly like them all :thumb:

I've always wanted to do a winged bowl like that, maybe even bigger, with say 3 smaller bowls in the wings, then you could put small glass bowls in there for the Dip, and a large glass bowl in the middle to hold the veggies, or if it was chips, no need for the large glass bowl.

You would need quite the swing to do this :D
