    New shop addition

Built the ultimate downdraft / dust collector today. A simple box 26" tall 24" wide and 34" long, and mounted a gas furnace blower motor inside. Used pegboard for the top, and cut a 4" hole in the back for additional DC for my miter saw or router. The blower motor runs off of 110V, pushes 1000 CFM and is much quieter than my shop vac. Going to add some 10" flex duct on the front so I can make sure all the dust goes outside. Total cost: 25.00 for plywood, 1 pot of coffee, and an enjoyable day in the shop.

That sounds like a good job, well done.
THe squirrel cage blowers really are very efficient at a relatively low rpm.

You know someone is going to say it...no pics didn't happen!

Please post some pics when you get a chance. You said it was simple, but my mind only works with pictures most of the time.

Well it took forever, but here's the pics of my custom down draft box. The metal collar on the back allows me to connect a vac hose to my router table.

Thanks Larry. The nice thing about this setup is that it draws less than 6 amps, yet it can throw sawdust halfway across the backyard.
