Knife Block?

This was originally drawn by someone else and posted on another forum which I rarely visit any more. I thought it would make a nice gift from my workshop but decided to fix up the model a bit. I made it so you could get a proper cutlist from the file and in doing so, knocked about 55% off the file size.

It's a nice design and I figure maybe someone here might finid this useful.

Nice Dave.

You've got me thinking too.

I don't like my commercially made knife block, so I've been thinking about making a replacement, and this gives me some good clues on how to go about it.

Thanks!

I've seen that one with the bristles. Looks neat.

My problem is that I don't use the honing steel that comes with the knives.

I use a strop. Basically an old belt with an unfinish back that I glued 'good' side down to a piece of wood. I charge that with the green honing compound and I find a few swipes on that gets my knife in tomato cutting sharpness...

So I'd like to build one that holds my strop as well as the knives... (And I'd get rid of the 'honing' steel.

One of the woodworking mags had an article about building a knife block similar to that, Vaughn. They used bamboo skewers for the rods in the box.
