why whole new window for PMs ?

In the past few weeks, whenever I log on and get a new PM message and click on it, a whole new window opens. In other words, I then have FW opened twice.

I always open four windows of Family Woodworking, tile them and read four posts at a time.

I just experienced some wierd behavior after opening a PM.

After logging in to the site with browser window A, a separate instance of the browser, window B, opened when I read a PM. After reading the PM, I continued reading the forum with window B. At one point I wanted to see a picture bigger so I clicked on it. Nothing appeared to happen so I clicked again and still saw nothing so I shrugged and moved on. Then I closed window B and lo and behold, there were two bigger pictures in window A.

    I'm running Firefox 3.0.5 on Vista 64.

I managed to undo the irritation by unclicking a box.
