    What would be a good finish for flame birch?

    i'll be looking to finish a frame made of it this spring, if it ever thaws out around here...

    I like useing shellac for wild frained wood. It seems to help the grain stand out.

    i agree with Al and then if you need more protetion squirt it with lacquer.

    i was also thinking of giving it just a touch of a darker brown dye, thinned out to almost nonexistance, to give it just a touch of color. the experiments will commence with the arrival of warmer weather...

    A metallic oxide dye,transtint) could be mixed with shellac to do what you want.
