LISBON - A 12-year-old Lisbon Falls girl died in a single-sled snowmobile accident near her home Wednesday night, according to the Maine Warden Service. Ashley Stone was driving a snowmobile on a trail along a power line when she lost control of the sled and struck a tree, said Lt. Adam Gormley of the Maine Warden Service.

Two boys, ages 10 and 13, were passengers on the sled. They were taken to Lewiston hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, said Deborah Turcotte, a spokeswoman for the Maine Warden Service.

The accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. off Edgecomb Road in Lisbon Falls, about 200 yards from the girl's home, Gormley said. One of the passengers had a cell phone and called his mother. Two of the mothers, including the girl's mother, rushed to the scene. The girl, a seventh-grader at Sugg Middle School in Lisbon Falls, died at the scene. She and her passengers were wearing helmets.

According to a school department spokesman, all Lisbon schools have a crisis response plan and will be ready to counsel students when they arrive at school Thursday morning.

The Warden Service, assisted by Lisbon Police and Fire Department personnel, was expected to be at the scene throughout the night and into Thursday, Turcotte said. Stone's death was the fifth snowmobile fatality this season. Since 2000, five juveniles under the age of 15 have died in snowmobile accidents, according to the Warden Service.
