Does anyone here that has a laser setup have the capability to cut and engrave 1/4" 4130 steel? There is a person in New York looking to get some work done. PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

No, Dale. Unless a laser is HUGE and has megawatts, it won't cut steel. It might engrave the steel, but most engraving on metal is done with a "toner"-like powder called Cermark, which is bonded to the metal by the heat of the laser beam -- and wears off eventually. Cutting that thickness of steel is best done by some other method--I suspect that no individual owns a laser that would do that job.

Yup... for 1/4" steel you probably want a plasma cutter. It slices through steel like it's butter.

as far as engraving goes, I'm not really sure on that one.
