    Ned, you still need a planer? (serious question embedded)

    If so, can your shop support this 1 1/4 ton beast (eBay link)? It only has 26" capacity, so I don't know if it'd be big enough for you.

    In all seriousness, not that I'll be likely ever to use something like this, would engaging the bottom cutter also eliminate the need for jointing?

    Man, that is a beast. Looks like it can make some serious chips. I'll let the big/old iron guys answer your question about the lower cutter.

    No, I have a planer it's a jointer that I'm saving up for.
