This is a chunk of maple I have laying around from a tree that fell about 4 years ago in the back yard.... most of it I cut up and burned before I realized it was maple... some of it is spalting really nicely... some has stayed pretty solid.
The little one is really a busy pattern... it's about 6 x 2 inches and was getting pretty punky.... I got it pretty smooth with just a couple of pits in the bottom. I actually cracked when I was working on it, but the crack runs along a spalting line and after lots of CA seems to have stabilized.
The second is from the same tree, differend part of the tree.. probably part of the trunk... it has a little spalting.. and wood was nice and solid. this one is about 8 1/2 x 4 1/4... finish is w/o poly and carnuba. I'm still working on getting the bottoms clean...
