burr oak before and after drying

hello folks here are some of the burr oak hollow forms i've been working on recently.they are completely dry and oiled now.
i've included some before and after pics aswell so you can see the difference in form etc

That burr oak looks like it moves about as much as some of the madrone burl I've turned. Amazing when it gets a mind of its own, huh?
 
The shapes and the wood are great! but the results after drying remind me burn scars, I saw a lot of them when I worked at a hospital for four years at the burnt patients section. So my opinion is biased. Please disregard.

I'm no turner but I thought that you used DNA to prevent this, don't you?
 
DNA seems to be an american thing though there are some who use it over here (we call it meths) but the sort of thing that George is doing is turned wet and allowed to dry naturally in order to get a more natural shape.

Those are beautiful forms George and the texture of the wood is great. BTW Pete...we can't say "Meth" in the US. You'll find yourself the guest of the local constabulary mucho pronto.
