    1st Segmented Turning

This was my first effort at segmented turning. Cherry and Birch, a poor choice as there is not a lot of difference in such small pieces and they are difficult to differentiate when looking at the photos. The bottom row is all birch, if that helps any.

73 pieces including the plug on the bottom; 3-1/2" high by 3" wide at the top.

Personally I am not a great fan of segmented work, one because it tends to look too contrived for my taste and 2ndly because I am bone idle and there is too much maths & work involved

Having said that, this piece looks better to me for not being so 'contrasty' doesn't look as though you are trying to show how clever you are (which you must be to do this sort of thing) and more sedate.

That's a lot pieces for a piece that small. I agree with Pete though, I think it's more complimentary to the piece using pieces with less contrast. Very attractive piece and great work.

My parents taught me to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder to find any.
If you go looking for trouble, it will usually find you.
