I just saw Pete's hollow form... mine isn't quite so sophisticated, but it's my first attempt and I'm not unhappy about it.

The finial/lid is a small glue up of bloodwood, purpleheart and walnut that I originally had planned to use as a stem for a wine glass.. the hollow form is red oak. I think I got the walls nearly even and smooth inside.. about 1/4 inch thick.

I had a small hole in the top that I filled with sawdust and CA.. the sawdust turned out lighter than the sorrounding wood.

Don't know about not so sophisticated, different but that isn't bad. The shape you have got the hollow form is arguably harder to do than the rounder form I do as it is difficult to get under the shoulder. If I am going to be picky I would suggest that you make the finial a bit thinner. Having said that it's a matter of design and personal taste. If you put a leg on it that can make a huge difference to the overall look of it, sort of makes it all come together.
