I gave my first try at some NE bowls today.

I rough turned 3 bowls this afternoon from some spalted unknown wood. (I am waiting for the results from the microscopy lab at work to tell me what it is)

We had some beautiful weather this afternoon, so I moved the Shopsmith outside to turn in some nice fresh air. The bowls range from 7 to 9" in diameter and 2.5 to 4" tall.

Let me know what you think. Hope you all have a great weekend!

I agree with Vaughn, nice looking wood, I'm sure the will turn out just fine!

I very much envy you moving outside to turn, that would be nice on a great day! :thumb:

I just couldn't resist moving outside, I didn't want to miss the sun. It was the only day this weekend I could turn, and the only nice day. It is raining now and supposed to Sunday too.

I have had other suggestions that it may be elm. I should get the lab results next week. I have a friend in our microscopy lab who took a piece to test. I will let you know when I find out.

Good looking bowls/wood Keith! I'll take a stab at the species and say Bigleaf Maple. Why:dunno: Just seems like a good guess. If it was elm, you would have probably noticed the stink.
