My novice question for the day. Someone is sending me a few pieces of sample burl cherry and oak. Not sure how dry it will be. Does burl lumber need to be sealed to avoid checking?
I question the use of the word "Lumber" with Burls. I haven't seen many burls large enough to make boards out of. If, in fact they come a dimentional lumber, please post pictures. That way we can ALL drool!
I am similarly thrown off when someone refers to turning wood as "timber". It's a common use of the word in some parts of the world, but I'm not used to thinking of a pen blank as a timber.
Gary, I'll echo the advice to seal the burl wood you get.
