I picked up a Stanley 9 1/2 fro eBay for $13 plus shipping. It just arrived and the mouth is chipped, other than that it looks in good condition. I am guessing since the chip is where the blade sits it is not a problem, do you guys agree? See attached pics and let me know.

Thanks
Dan

You'll never notice.
One thing you will be able to compare are the two depth adjustment mechanisms. The one on the 60 1/2 block you bought is very different than this one. See what you prefer.
Have fun with your planes.

That is behind the blade - and the chip will not have any effect on the planing action.

You can lightly file to flaten the inside and polish the entire opening so that the blade adjusts smoothly - ans also so the chip evacuates smoothly.

I talked a little bit about that stuff at my house. Don't know if ya remember. I know I did not go over all the finer points on hand planing.
