    Black Walnut Box

    did this one out of a blank that the generous Barry Stratton sent me a few months back. This it the first box that i did with this kind of form and i like it a bit. not sure if i like the transition between the lid and box but I wasnt sure what else to do... help? poly finish 5 high* 2 1/2 wide at the widest. critique pls!

    Ben,

    Again I like this one also. Nice proportions and shape. Transition between the lid and the box cold flow a little better though. I would give the lid a slight overhanging shoulder or make it flush with no gap. This would effectively make the lid a little bigger also. With the gap you have it appears the lid is smaller in diameter then the box where the lid and box meet.

    Agree about lid fit. A non-glossy oil finish always looks good with walnut.

    The craftsmanship is excellent. The only thing I would have done differently would be to use a low gloss finish.
