No, the central bowl was turned as normal facing the tailstock without tailstock support.
No, although it would have been a lot easier and is a method that has already been filed away to cut stock a little more oversize in future.My guess .... held in some way by the three ears then cut off after turning. ....
....I'm guessing glue with paper and mebbe a cusion pad that was heat removed after the turning.

And for one small payment you to can have the magical remedy to foot less turning just make the remittance payable to the uk
