    Something else for the ladies

Well it makes a change froom bowls

I was asked if I could make a drop spindle with the option to change the weights. Usually the weight is turned with the spindle and is non removable. Put my thinking cap on and a bit of advice from an engineering friend and I came up with this prototype.

It has a 10" spindle with a boxwood finial on the bottom. The three differen weights drop down and jam on the nd which is tapered to a largr diameter tha the hole in the spindle. They (the weights can be used singly or by adding them for different guage threads. This one sems to work OK so now on to the real thing.

    Looks very cool, Pete!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is it for?
    Why has common sense

It's for spinning yarn from a fleece. Different weights are used to make different thicknesses of yarn or wool. Sort of portable spinning wheel that dates back to the egyptians and possibly beyond.
