Making a mobile base for a lathe

around 300 lbs of ballast, then add another 170-180 lbs of lathe, that's about 470-480 lbs. you got'um enough oomph to scoot that around? :dunno: i remember when i was a bit of a lad (about 35 yrs ago) i worked in the grocery business, and we had to use manual pallet jacks to move stuff around. some of those pallets of canned goods were a cube about 4 1/2 ft on a side, and wieghed in probably around what you're gonna wind up with. that's a lot of wieght to be shoving around, as a healthy lad, or well preserved, slightly older guy...

The stand looks great Dave!

The weight as ballast is good, but sand will absorb any vibrations better, so if you find you have some weird vibrations at speeds you commonly run the lathe at, try to but a big bag of dry sand on the stand.

Cheers!
