For any Houston area folks interested in Early American/Texana furniture, you might be interested in this exhibition. For any non-Texans, Bayou Bend is the home of the first Texas born Governor of the state, Jim Hogg, who's daughter Ima was the first lady of fine arts in the Houston area. Ms. Hogg (or Miss Ima, as she was called) started to collect Early American and Texana furniture and fine arts at the start of the 20th century and held one of the best private collections in the country. Upon her death the home (Bayou Bend) along with the family plantation were given to the public.

It´s "drawers open and bottoms up" at Bayou Bend and Rienzi as the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston´s two homes for decorative arts present: Upside Down/Inside Out.

Select pieces of furniture and other objects will be opened up or turned over, giving guests a rare chance to see the inner workings of these treasured pieces.

Light refreshments will be provided at both residences, and a shuttle will be on hand to take guests between the houses. Admission is $15 to visit both houses. Guests should park at Bayou Bend (Westcott St. at Memorial Drive). Reservations required. Call Bayou Bend at 713-639-7758 or Rienzi at 713-639-7800 for reservations and information.
