Even though this wood is very common locally I had never heard of it. I think it's also called Larch which I have heard of. It appears to be fairly hard and is quite heavy.
Anyway, I saw an Ad on CL yesterday for 18 pcs of rough sawn 1x6x8.5' long Tamarack. It was cut 10 years ago and stored in a barn.
The price seemed right, about $36.00 so I drove over to the next town and took a look at it. It looks OK to me so I bought it at a good price. It's about 75bf and cost me about 35 cents a bf.
Not sure what I'll do with it but it should be fun working with it. I'll keep it in my garage until I have the space in my basement shop. It's time to build a rack down there somewhere.
