rust removal tutorial

Hi Frank

That is a great tutorial and I consulted it myself before taking the plunge. There is one caution, however. He recommends using a stainless steel electrode. This is not a good idea. It will last longer than an iron/steel electrode, but hexavalent chromium is left behind in the soup.

Hexavalent chromium is a hazardous material and a known carcinogen. It's illegal in most jurisdictions to throw it in the garbage or pour it down the drain. In terms of removing rust, there's just no good reason for using this stuff.

I've used pieces of angle iron of 12" spikes as electrodes and they work just fine without creating toxic sludge.
