The bowl that blacked my eye...

Stephen Bellinger said we aren't posting as much... thought I might as well show the bowl that flew out of my longworth chuck and smacked me in the eye....

It's a spalted maple, 10 1/2 inches dia x 3 inches high.. finished with mineral oil... which darkened the wood some...

Chuck that bowl might of got you, but you won as that's one sharp bowl. :thumb:

That's some great spalting and shape.

If it wasn't for all the iron in the spalting of that beautiful bowl, maybe it wouldn't have hurt as much.

That had to hurt. Think it might be time to invest in a face shield? Might have saved the pain and aggrivation. Glad it wasn't worse that it is. Please be careful. Nice bowl though.

I almost always use a face shield, but had just taken it off for better vision...it's got CA on it and was a little dusty... I've cleaned it as best as I can and as I told Frank in a PM... routine now is put on face shield, then turn on lathe...
