    Another whatsit

I found this very nicely made Snell & Atherton tool this morning. It looks like some kind of carriage maker's tool, and leaves a nice slightly curved concave surface. I sharpened it up and it sings. But what is it?

Good guesses folks, but turns out it's a leather shave:

Just how to put it to use? - that I don't know.

    Hi Ken

I found this comment by a guy selling the same thing.

"Item # 160 Snell & Atherton rebating tool.Primarily used in the shoemaking trade, it's in excellent condition having the adjustable throat and the brass edge guide. This one has the curved cutter adjustable up to 5/8 inch wide in the 'carriage makers style'. Designed for leather but also works on wood. Price $80 US shipped"
