There is always discussions of what to do with our scrap. Me, I just pitch it in my outside wood boiler. Others don't have this advantage. I was watching Roy Underhill yesterday and a man was forging an adze and talked of making his own charcoal out of his wood scrap from his woodshop where he predominately makes chairs. Hmmmmmmmmm. Our own charcoal, I prefer charcoal over gas when grilling, hope to build a metal shop in the near future and put my forge back together again, hmmmmmmmmmm. This is actually the first website I found and I liked its straight forward approach.

Anyone else have a preference for a charcoal making recipe? Make you think differently about your wood scrap pile????

I have used wood chunks for grilling before. Basically get the wood going, then cut a bunch of the air off. Gets rid of the 'woody' volatiles and turns into a sort of charcoal. Then I cook on the coals...

Those big green eggs look cool...

I generally prefer charcoal, but there are times when the gas is just so much more convenient.

Weekends are for Webers, I say!
