I have been trying to work a deal on a very old 12" jointer for some time. An 8" Oliver direct drive has come available in my area. These Olivers are known as very nice jointer's. I am debating on what to do, I would prefer the old one but it really needs a lot of work. Money wise I would end up with about the same as the Oliver probably. Plus a lot of work.
The real issue is just how much more useful is a 12" than a 8" jointer? I know that no one knows my style of work better than me. And there isn't that often I have a 10-12" board in the shop. And then you can still joint it on an 8", just not as easy.
Talk to me. I am really undecided here.
