Pie Safe Build

I've really been lax in getting pictures posted. Larry just kicked me in the butt so here are a few more.
I was really bummed. The first set of doors was made from some real nice figured maple. When I was routing the rabbet in the back for the tin the collet on my 20 yr old PC 1001 gave out and the bit slipped down. Pretty much ruining one door. On the second door (after thinking I fixed the problem it happened again. So off to the burn pile with one set of doors.
The second set of doors were built with biscuits. I don't like them but it was faster and they actually came out OK.

The tin finally came in this past Tuesday. I was going to just order the blanks and the pattern and punch them myself but my daughter wanted a fairly complex (for me) wheat design. There are about 600 punches in each tin (6 needed). I figured that I would go nuts after making the first one so I ordered pre punched panels.:( Im not very good with tedious projects. I get bored and frustrated and end up making mistakes.

Again, sorry for the lousy pictures.

The pictures I take really dont show very well. But the project is coming out pretty well.
The last picture is a sample of the General Finish Gel Stain. Colonial Maple on a piece of sanded maple. I sanded everything to 220 and I'm not pleased with the color of the stain. I'd like it darker but even after putting 2 coats on it didn't darken up. Next time if I use the same type of stain I will only sand to 120.

I don't know what happened to the picture of the doors???? I'll add more tomorrow.

Bob, that's really nice. You can make me a pye or biscuit safe or cabinet or whatever, anytime. and your pictures are fine too.

Ok it's all done :bliss:

All in all I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. As always there are a few minor issues that will go unseen by anyone but myself.
It's spitting snow today so I think my daughter will wait until the weather is better to come and pick it up.

Here are a couple pictures of the first set of doors I messed up.:(
