Moving the shop, *sigh*

Almost back online!

Here's the blocks I made for the widebelt to sit on. A bit better looking than just having it sit on some rough 6x6's

Its kinda funny, from straight on it looks like a bigger machine. Almost like a real Timesaver.

Air lines are basically done. I've got one drop I need to hook up, but I need my plumber landlord to sweat a fitting for me. Me doing it, it is sure to be ugly, and leaky.

Total I've got ten drops scattered around the shop. I ended up adding two more, than I originally planned, just for whatever use. Half of them are dedicated to machines. Its going to be so nice not having to shuffle stuff around anymore.

YEAH!!!! My horses and carts are done.

Ten horses, and four carts.

Got Pipe? I ended up ordering everything through McMaster-Carr. Might have been a mistake. I ended up spending basically $2k by the time freight is figured into it.

Got some of it up last night. The other room is going to be a challenge. I'm also concerned I've got too much pipe on the one collector in the other room. There's going to be two tablesaws, two shapers, a planer, and the widebelt all on the one unit.

She is really coming along. I use two 45's and a short section of pipe to make a more gentle bend in my ducting. Those 90's and "T"'s can be pretty abrupt. Just food for thought.

The shop is really coming together. If it seems to be taking long to you, think again. It seems to be moving really quick to me ;-) That is gonna be one sweet space to work in.

It seems like its taking for ever!

but the list is getting shorter. So is the balance on my checking account. The company account is dry, and my personal account is going quick. All said and done just plain moving expense's, setup, and things acquired because of the new space (carts, horses, 3rd tablesaw, 2nd dust collector), I think I've spent close to $10k in the past month.

Thankfully I gotta get rolling on a job next week that I'll do pretty well on.

So everything is up and running. There's still a bit of dust collection that has to be put up.

I've been rolling on a big project for the past three weeks. Today we started staging everything. I don't know how many individual box's there is, but there is 78 doors, and 52 drawers. Its one of the highest cost jobs I've personally done at just shy of $30k with out any finishing figured into it. Paint grade stuff has a pretty good profit margin on it too.

I'm pretty happy with the layout of everything. Its not as much space as I thought it was.....

It filled up pretty quick.

Things flow pretty well. Not having to unhook dust collection, power, and air to anything is a welcomed treat from my old shop where everything was on wheels and pulled out, used then put back.

Buying a 3rd tablesaw has also been extremely worth while. I keep one set up for cutting solid stock, one for dado-ing, and one for cutting up sheet stock. I had two before, and kept the Delta almost strictly for dado use. I figure if a blade had to be changed by an employee making $20/hr, five times a day for different materials, at basically a minute a time (<----optimistic) it would cost me $350 a year. Plus it avoids waiting for a saw to open up.

Whew. What a workout. Congrats on getting that behind you. Funny, that space looked so big when this thread started. :D Well done Karl. :thumb:

Karl,

Your shop looks fantastic. And thanks for chronicling this -- it's given me many good ideas for my future "dream" shop. I love the rolling carts. If you don't mind my asking, how many employees do you have? Do you typically have multiple jobs going at one time? How about a spray booth? (sorry if I've missed the answers to these questions in previous posts).

Anywhere from zero to one.

Not often, and not with big jobs. I may have a whole house going, and sneak in a vanity or entertainment center, but its usually best to concentrate on one thing and get it banged out. Then move on.

I hire all of my finishing out. Mostly because I hate doing it, and I've got a guy who is ridiculously good.
