LEARN ABOUT INTARSIA FROM A MASTER!

Intarsia is the art of making 3-D pictures out of wood. It can also be used as a decorative element in furniture and boxes.

Dr. Tom Thompkins will be giving a Power Point presentation on INTARSIA this Sunday, September 26, 2010.

First, he will spend ½ hour showing how a scroll saw works (and bear in mind that we have several of them in the department).

He will then show how he makes one of his pictures using the scroll saw. He will have on hand one of his works in various stages of completion so that you will be able to see step-by-step how he does it.

RAFFLE PRIZES will include one of Dr. Thompkins’ Intarsia pieces, valued at $300! Also being raffled is a 30-piece router bit set.)

Sunday, September 26 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Health Sciences Bldg., Room 102

“Tom the Sawyer” won first place at the Design In Wood 2010 competition in the intarsia category. He will be bringing samples of his work.
