Alan that is similar to what Im thinking of but it would put a constant 5-10 pounds of pull on the carriage so its stiff and keeps the saw from climbing. All saws in industry should have one cause osha requires them.
The cheap way to do this would be attach a pulley to the arm and tie a rope to the carriage and run it over the pulley and attach a 5 lb weight to the end
