    augur gimlet

I'm just wondering, does anyone actually use these?

They're good for making starter holes for screws, but in the length of time it takes to find the right one, it's just as easy to pick up the drill with the bit & countersink in it and do the same job.

I've got a couple gimlets somewhere, but I haven't actually seen them in a couple years, at least.

I have a couple that were given to me many years ago. I use them very occasionally. I wouldn't buy one. Or 5. It's useful when you need a small hole in some very hard wood, like in a small picture frame, and you don't want it to split when putting an eyehook in. Pretty specific, and not really needed. An awl will likely do just the same.
