This old boy was heavy in very bad shape. It had been sitting in a garage for 50 years. Many dings and mars, missing veneer broken feet. I hand stripped it and put a hand finished French Polish on it. It has become one of my favorite WOW ! I did that ! It sat in the shop for 2 years till I finally decided to finish it. I would look at it and say one day. Once I started I was captured but what I knew it could look like, almost like it had a hold one me.
Veneers were hand cut to match the 1/8th thickness and missing wood was cut and shaped.
The finishes;
3 coats or finely sprayed shellack
then dissolved button shellac in alcohol and diluted 50/50
Hand rubbed in Pumice Stone #4
a drop of 100% tong oil on the Bob and polish applied to the bob
7 layers of polish [french]
Waxed with Butchers wax. 3 coats very sparingly each coat. This fills in any of the remaining small crevices.

I used water stain. I 1st wet the surrounding areas with Naptha to get the color and then mixed in the powder water stain in boiling water till I got a match. Sometime it takes a 2-4 different colors to get an old look.

Something I will be doing on that Walnut Empire table top I am making for the game table.
