    dovetailed box

This box started out as some practice scrap, pine and mahogany. The first corner came out nice so I decided to make 3 more, and it became a box. Same stuff I used to demonstrate steaming out a dent. Overall size about 8" square.

Finish is shellac. The lid is not attached, but is held in place by the rabbets all around.

Love the dovetails in contrasting wood like that.

Next time can you make the tops of the dovetails just a little narrower?

Those look to be what, 1 saw kerf wide? I think you have the hand cut dovetails mastered!!!

Looks great Ken. What do find harder, sawing or chopping the pins when they are so small?

In your mind you may never master them, but you're still leagues ahead of most of the rest of us. Beautiful little box, Ken.

Bill, I saw the pins. I use a fret saw to remove most of the waste on pins and tails.

Guilty as charged, but I was asked the question.
