dovetailed box

This box started out as some practice scrap, pine and mahogany. The first corner came out nice so I decided to make 3 more, and it became a box. Same stuff I used to demonstrate steaming out a dent. Overall size about 8" square.

Finish is shellac. The lid is not attached, but is held in place by the rabbets all around.

Love the dovetails in contrasting wood like that.

Next time can you make the tops of the dovetails just a little narrower? :rofl:

Those look to be what, 1 saw kerf wide? I think you have the hand cut dovetails mastered!!!
 
Well, I imagine the shims were imperceptibly thin shavings you made using one of your deadly sharp planes, the filler was a microscopic layer of finish with the tiniest amount of sawdust worked in.... :rolleyes:
