To my eye, the darkest part of the grain forms the dominant cathedral, so even though I like the "V" shape when the knots are on the top, I'd go with this direction:

I think I'm starting to agree with Vaughn, with the darkening of the crotch with finish.
 
well we can stop worrying about it i just pitched the whole thing have a good day!!!
to much confusion and it has caused to much adversity..go back to yur regularly scheduled spinny stuff and i will keep my flat panel to myself..
