Turning a piece of black walnut that was much wetter than I thought, so I sealed it up and started working on a few holiday pens.

Mesquite and Holly.

Not happy with the photo stuff but finding more ways to NOT do it!:dunno:

They both look great from here, Michael. :thumb: What's holly like to turn? I've never turned any of it.

Turns easy easy enough and finishes well too. I've never turned bigger chunks than pen blanks. They seem ike a refreshing and elegant diversion from all the wild burls and spalts........ and Holidays-y white!:)
(uh...that's for us that don't really get snow)

Stephan B: Never turned any Mesquite as we don't have any of that out my way.
Neither do I - there's some around the state but what I've been sent is akin to twigs.... I got a box of pen blanks out of texas, and some turning sized pieces out of Arizona. It is a hard wood and dusty when dry but I think it's a beautiful wood, oiled up.
