Wanted some impute on a shaper...I'm going to purchase a shaper (3-5hp) and was wondering if it was worth it to look at one with a tilting spindle?

I've heard that it opens up possibilities for using the same cutters to do diff. profiles. Is it a really useful option that opens new doors into wondrous new lands, or is it an option that is rarely if ever used?

Any thoughts would helpful!

Thanks,

Brian

brian , never used a tilting shaper and dont have one but have seen them, and know a guy that has one and his comment to me was that if yu need to make a different profile by tilting , yu can just make a angled table to do the same thing and non tilting shapers are cheaper.

Thanks for the input! I'll stick with a straight spindle. I can see that making a slanted jig would work just as well and cost a lot less!

Thanks,

Brian
