Ah, what the heck. I'm in. Maybe I can come up with a decent combination of flat and spinny work.

A couple of suggestions:

Size? I'll be shooting for something that'll fit into a Flat Rate box, but I don't see why someone couldn't go bigger if they want the added shipping expense. (Keep in mind some turned boxes may be considerably smaller and lighter than most flatwork boxes.)

Dovetails? I'd vote do 'em if you want, but no requirement for them, so more folks will be likely to participate. Not all flatworkers have a desire to hand-cut dovetails, especially some of the beginners (or some of the turners who might be thinking of a flat box).

And I'm good with March.

Great response all I really do not want to put major rules on these as I want any and all that want to participate be able to no matter what the skill level. Style, size is up to the maker just remember you have to ship it, so size toward a flat rate box is the most cost effective way to go. I remember my first as I didn't even really know what a box was and it turned out to be such great fun making one, then receiving someone craftsmanship to keep and display is AWESOME. I see new folks getting in one this, AWESOME that is what these are about, getting people involved, creating, participating and for me getting back to the shop

I've never been in on this before so help me out. Do we want to keep it to a certain size for ease of mailing or do we care? I don't mean exact, I mean about the size of a coffee cup or about the size of a shoe. No, not Larry's shoe, my shoe, size 10-1/2 ;-)

well glenn my feet arnt much bigger than yours i can get in a 10 1/2 but 11's work better and some shoes are 12 for more socks to stay warm and have support for climbing rocky terrian or trees ..sorry tom i missed this early on,, i too am good with march.. and agree with the flat rate box..so add me to your list..and it will be flat not a spinny thing.. one suggestion for those new to this.. go back and look at some of the earlier ones for some ideas of what was done prior.. flat rate boxes arent very high in shipping costs..15 dollars will get you a real big box sent anywhere in the usa..

this is toms swap ..bob, but in the past yu make a box and get a name that it goes to and yu take a picture of your box in case the recipient doesnt have one so that when it arrives they can post a pic of it or you can.. and they need to conatian lots on goodies inside preferabbly green stuff not just a box made by you and AND SIGNED
