Well, pics will have to wait til tomorrow sometime, but we closed a deal today on the replacement for my son's former Toyota Corolla. We landed a 99 Ford Escort sedan with under 100K miles and within the budget of the check we got for the Toyota. Basic transportation, VA car, in great condition (vs what we were finding here in NY which was better than I feared but the mileage on avg was about 20 to 40K more up here).
Wife and I are taking our youngest, leaving at oh dark hundred for the 480 mile trip down, and will reverse course on Thursday. I think I'm going to have to arm wrestle her for the keys to the Escort on the way back (though I will want to try it out just for my own peace of mind before she gets behind the wheel).
Been a fun month with 3.5 active drivers (James hasn't driven much since the accident) and just one car. now we're back to 'normal' and 4 for 2 cars.

Good to hear you found one. I was talking to a friend that owns a dealership and he said after tax returns start coming back it's almost impossible to find a reasonable deal on a car for the next few months. We found a replacement for my daughter just last week, but was getting a little worried we wouldn't find anything as good as what she had.

We 'traded up' in the end of the deal... 99 vs 97, 9*,000 miles vs 110,000 (during the trip the day of the accident), slightly better equipped (cruise vs 'step on it') and this one has a hood that doesn't require major body work of course.

Car shopping is very often not much fun, and when you add in the pressure and stress of NEEDING another car last week.... yeah, I too am happy to hear you guys got one :thumb:

Ned - Nice job on the car find.

I think Mother Nature is gonna put a wrinkle in your return trip.
Hopefully your safely in VA already.

The DEL/MAR/VA triangle is getting pounded with snow today.

Good luck and have a safe trip.

Jim

well, we're halfway there...

thanks to mother nature, we made it 450 miles from 6:30am to 1:50pm, then had to stop thanks to several people proving physics did indeed apply to them ahead of us. we finally got to my parents at 3:30 30 some odd miles later.

decided to hole up til morning, to do the car thing.

Jim we had dry clear roads all the way up til Syracuse, then a very few flakes were in the air. Slowed down 'cause things were a little 'greasy', but not much
