Fitted with a Modified Perfect Fit 1/4 Twist Ballpoint.
Twisting the nib clockwise extends and retracts the refill.
Unscrewing the nib anti-clockwise allows access to the refill.

No buffing or polishing on the MINWAX finish required.

Beautiful work as usual, Les. Did the cedar make your shop smell good, or was it a big enough piece to do that? (If I turn a cedar bowl or hollow form, my shop smells great for a week or two afterward.)

That's really nice... I wish I knew how to turn these one piece designs, as they seem to be among the best designs for showing off a really nice piece of wood.

Guys,

To make a modified kit: (Slimline Kits)

1. Ensure the blank is square
2. Cut the blank to length including the center band
3. Drill the blank dead center using the appropriate drill bit
4. Glue in the cap end brass tube
5. Drop in the nib end tube and mill both ends square to the tubes
6. Remove the nib end tube
7. Knock the edges off the blank with the band saw
8. Turn the blank between centers to fit the finial and nib
9. Prepare and apply finish to the barrel
10. Install the nib, transmission and refill into the other brass tube
11. Install the Finial and Clip into the cap end of the barrel
12. Push the nib assembly into the barrel and check operation
Twisting the nib should easily extend and retract the refill

Printed and saved.
Methinks will have to do several to get the knack down pat.
Twisting the nib. OK, I was puzzling over the process by thinking it was the clip tha wuz turned.
Thanks. Come warm up (it's getting there) I'll try.
