What I know about Cottonwood:
Stinks like all get out, if you let it sit and stay wet very long.
Doesn't give off much heat in the fireplace, but it's a nice quiet burn....no sparks.
Great for horse fences....sour to the taste, so horses won't chew in it. A soft, hardwood.
Some is pretty boring, others loaded with "tiger" stripes.
This stuff can grow HUGE. Sometimes 70% of it's green weight, is in the water it's holding.
I have a stabilizing setup, and Cottonwood stabilizes well.
