This Russian Olive blank was cracked really bad. But I love the wood so I decided to try and save it by filling the cracks. I used black epoxy mixed with copper shavings on the big cracks, just epoxy on the smaller ones. The blank had a big divot in the top so I just started hollowing and let the opening follow the shape of the divot. It has an egg shape overall. It's 7 x 5.5 inches. Antique Oil but not buffed yet.

Curt, the pics don't do the effort justice. You usually have a slam, outta the park, see ya when I get back kinda home run. It shows in the small details here. Real nice save!!

Thanks everyone!

Interesting piece! How is that to turn? We actually have a lot of those growing along the river here. Thanks!

Michael, russian olive is really pretty crappy wood to turn. But it can have some really interesting grain and colors that can make it worth it. But in general, it tears really bad and requires some pretty heavy duty sanding to get a decent finish. And it stinks when it's green.
