What's the purpose of putting tags on new threads, and should we be doing it? Does it make a significant difference if we do?

    Tag, you are it

If I remember correct, it is so the search engine can find stuff faster and easier.
If you don't take pride in your work, life get's pretty boring.

Rule of thumb is if you donít know what tool to buy next, then you probably donít need it yet.

Steve's right. The tags are supposed to help with searches, but like most others here, I haven't been adding them to my threads.

When you start a new thread, there's a place under the main text box where you can enter "tags", which are words or phrases that describe or are related to the thread. At the bottom of every thread page, there's a line that shows what tags have been added to the thread. There's also an "Edit" link that allows members to add tags to an existing thread.

    Does that help explain it?

They're for the tag cloud. Tag clouds were *way* cool in, like, 2008.

Betcha most people couldn't even *find* the tag cloud now...

    Thanks,

    Bill
